We can't repeat them enough until referendum day!
- When we listen to people about the decisions that affect them, we get better results. For the past 250 years, we haven’t properly listened to the people who have been here for 65,000. It’s time we did.
- This referendum is about straightforward ideas and practical solutions:
- Recognising and respecting 65,000 years of Indigenous culture for the first time in Australia’s 122-year-old constitution.
- Listening to a diverse group of Indigenous Australians about the policies and challenges that affect them
- Protecting the Voice from politics and bureaucrats by putting it in the constitution, giving it the security it needs to provide meaningful and honest advice.
- This referendum is a request directly from Indigenous Australians that has been decades in the making and is supported by more than 80% of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
- The status quo isn’t working. There are real gaps between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians in life expectancy, infant mortality, health, housing, education and employment. We have an opportunity to improve this, together.

When sharing your support online, stick to what you know best: Why are you voting yes?
In crafting your message:
- Be authentic and genuine
- Keep a happy, positive and joyful tone
- Say that you are voting yes and why in simplest terms.
A great opener can be ‘I am voting Yes because’ or ‘Our organisation supports Yes because’.
If you have a story that connects - a personal experience or conversation that supports your reason for voting yes - you can add this in as well.
But it’s fine to keep it simple: To say you are voting Yes because you believe that we need to listen to the voices and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities when the Government is deciding on policies that affect Indigenous Australians.
The main thing to do is get sharing - we need as many voices as possible sharing how proud and excited they are to vote Yes!

In just a matter of weeks, Australians will have the chance to shape history - to listen to Indigenous Australians, recognise their history and culture, and protect their voices for in Australia’s constitution!
What is the voice?
The Voice is a practical way to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our Constitution. It will be a committee of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who give advice to the government on issues affecting their community.
The Voice to Parliament is essentially about four key things:
- Recognising 65,000 years of Indigenous culture in Australia’s 122-year-old constitution.
- Listening and learning through the Voice - a diverse group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who can provide unique perspectives to Parliament on matters that affect their community.
- Protecting the Voice in the Constitution so that it can’t easily be dismantled by changing governments.
- Agreeing that the current approach isn’t working; we need to do something different to change the status quo. Indigenous Ausrtalians should have a real say over the issues affecting their communities.
Where did the idea come from?
Indigenous Australians have been advocating for decades to have a voice in the unique issues affecting their communities. In 2017, hundreds of community-elected Indigenous representatives came together and collectively asked to be recognised in the Constitution through a Voice. More than 80% of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people support the Voice to Parliament.
Now is our time to act.
It is time that we stand together as a nation and use our vote to say Yes to recognition, listening, and better results for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.
Visibly showing your support for the Voice in your community and online is a simple way to give others confidence in voting Yes too.
