Volunteer Code
-
Thank you
- Thank you for offering to volunteer for Yes23. Yes23 is the campaign led by Australians for Indigenous Constitutional Recognition Ltd (AICR).
- We are campaigning ‘Yes’ for Indigenous constitutional recognition in the upcoming referendum. Together with our volunteers, we aim to create meaningful change in Australia through the establishment of a Voice to Parliament. We couldn’t do that without you.
- This is the volunteer code for all Yes23 volunteers.
-
Code of conduct
- We ask that you:
- campaign according to the Yes23 values:
- Lead with grassroots Indigenous voices: They give meaning to constitutional recognition through a Voice. They embody the practical need for a Voice. Reinforce Indigenous voices with grassroots non-Indigenous support across the breadth of the Australian community. The Uluru statement from the heart was an invitation to all Australians to come together for a better future.
- Connect to community: We come from multiple, diverse, and overlapping communities. We approach the relationship with communities with a spirit of reciprocity. We connect with, serve and amplify the voices of all communities through this work. Communicate and engage with communities in ways that are respectful and culturally effective.
- Honour culture: Acknowledge and recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and histories. Recognise that this work is First Nations led. Understand that culture is living, evolving and enduring. Listen - respecting knowledge, culture and place and practice.
- Be in solidarity: Come together for a common purpose with agreed goals. Support each other with respect, even when you don’t agree. Acknowledge and value the varied voices and experience required to achieve success - don’t compete. Step forward when your skills are called for and make space for others when theirs is what’s needed. Be accountable, to the work and to each other.
- Contest compassionately and creatively: The contestation of ideas is vital to our growth. Be a critical friend, be open to contestation or challenge, and offer it with care. Contest ideas, not people.
- Ensure safety: We need cultural, physical, emotional and psychological safety to innovate and win. Be mindful of the safety of others and, where needed, alert others to your needs. Do no harm.
- Form lasting connections: Build relationships with depth and longevity in mind. Build lasting capability and readiness for activation into our relationships. Engage with unlikely collaborators, be open to unusual allies and unexpected teachers.
- Champion positivity: Be positive and respectful in all your interactions. Whatever the result of this referendum we are one community and we must live in harmony together. Success will come from our ability to bring people together from all communities and foster a kinder, more positive, respectful, and equitable Australia.
